Halloween expenses can quickly add up to a frightening large sum.  Here are  some budget-friendly tips for cutting one of the biggest expenses of all: costume costs.

1. Browse your closet for costume creations. Old clothes and even curtains and sheets can be transformed into festive attire. Unworn shirts can be cut up for a sash or vest, a bridesmaids dress makes a great princess or harem girl costume and an oversized orange sweatshirt is the perfect pumpkin for your child. Be creative & browse the internet for DYI ideas.

2. Search thrift stores for inexpensive costumes and accessories. Buying old clothes not only saves money but also helps green-up the environment. Don’t forget to look for used costumes on the internet at Craigslist or eBay.

3. Use online coupons for costume savings. Sites like PromotionalCodes.com and CouponWinner.com offer hundreds of money-saving coupons for costumes, decorations, accessories, candy and more. Search the sites’ Halloween category to find the best deals quickly and easily.

Check out some of the coupons available at PromotionalCodes.com & CouponWinner.com:

4. Organize a costume swap. Get with friends to trade kid and adult costumes or coordinate a swap within your neighborhood or at your office. Not only will others appreciate the money-saving idea, but you’ll likely score a great costume for free!

5. Buy next year’s costume at extremely discounted prices after Halloween. Start saving for next year now and shop after the haunting celebration to score anywhere from 60 to 80% off of costumes and accessories.

Let’s say you are a Star Wars fan and want to dress  sexy again this year for Halloween. The only problem is, you don’t want to go dressed up as a Gold Bikini-clad Slave Princess Leia again. That’s okay.  Yandy.com, which is better known for their risqué lingerie and intimate apparel, has a Star Wars-like costume you want this October to look sexy and geeky, all at the same time.

Called the Sci-Fi Furry costume (presumably to avoid the wrath of George Lucas) this outfit manages to make a Wookie look hot. I mean I certainly would not want to get this walking carpet out of my way if you know what I mean. The costume comes with five pieces including, “a cropped top, lace-up mini skirt, hood with attached sleeves, leg warmers and over the shoulder satchel.”

Now granted, the makers have taken a few artistic liberties with the design, but if you ever wanted to see a sexy Wookie, this would be it.

You had better be prepared to shell out some money, though, as this Sci_fi Furry Costume retails for $239.95. And if this doesn’t look geeky and sexy enough for you, then check out their Sci-Fi Commander and White Soldier costumes as well. Hint-hint.

More than 10,000 of the Oil Spill Costumes have been sold in the approach to this year’s October 31 holiday, which Americans are renowned for celebrating elaborately.

Oil Spill CostumeIts manufacturer claimed the success of the costume showed people across the US remained angry at the oil giant for its handling of the Deepwater Horizon disaster earlier this year.

An estimated 185 million gallons of oil were spilt into the Gulf of Mexico after an explosion in April on the BP rig, which also killed 11 workers.

“The Halloween business reflects the world we live in,” said Alan Geller, the executive vice-president of Fun World. “We like to add a bit of social commentary to the celebrations.”

“The holiday is about horror, and people are horrified at BP’s actions,” he told The Daily Telegraph. “Several lives and billions of dollars from people’s livelihoods were lost.”

Everyone’s favorite holiday is coming up and it’s the only time of year you can dress up in your fantasy outfit and not get strange looks. That’s right! It almost time for Halloween and Halloween costumes are going fast! It’s not just kids who like to dress up; adults love to dress as their favorite hero, person, or fantasy even it it’s a naughty costume.

So what’s going as the favorite this year – the princess costume! Again the princess costume wins out on the most sought after Halloween costume and not just for kids, adults want on too. It usually takes the number one spot and this year is no different.

Jack Sparrow Wig - Black

Coming in second place is a pirate costume. Jack Sparrow is still number two and it come complete with sword, hair, and sash. You can get costume accessories like the eye patch or extra knives to go with your costume, depending whether you want to be a good pirate or a bad pirate.

A vampire costume takes third place with all the gory red blood, teeth, and black cape. Twilight saga movies are responsible for this one moving up. Vampire fans want to be Edward Cullen to get that girl they’ve always wanted. Others are looking to Jacob Black costume for the Halloween treat or is that trick? Since there isn’t one many are using muscle chest shirts or a black t-shirt with muscle arms and a set of werewolf feet.

A surprising up coming costume introduced for this year is pet costumes. Pet costumes come in at forth place. I can tell you the costumes they have for pets are outstanding. You can make a German shepherd look like a hot dog or your poodle look like the Hulk complete with green hair. Of course, there is always the princess dog costume that’s a favorite with pet owners.

Fifth place goes to fancy dress costumes. That would cover the tuxedoes, southern belle, and the suave, sophisticated multimillionaire from the fifties. Fancy dress costumes are in the same place as last year cuz you can’t go wrong looking like Rhett Butler and Scarlett O’Hara.

Sixth place has held for this year as well as last with Batman costumes for kids and adults. Everyone’s hero and if you’re there’s two of you; you can have a couples costume with Batman and Robin. Robin looks just as good as a female as with a male.

Seventh place goes to the queen costume and that’s Queen as in Elisabeth, Queen of England, or Sofía, Queen of Spain. You can’t go wrong being a queen of any country or as queen of a genre.

The old favorite witch costume comes in eighth place. The best standby costume around. If you don’t know what else to dress up as for Halloween then go with the witch. The big black hat is the funnest to wear or with a little imagination it can be turned into a wizard’s hat.

Upcoming from out of nowhere is the Indian costume to stand in ninth place. Very surprising that it tops cowboy, who didn’t make the top ten this year. It might have to do with Jacob Black, who as you know, is a Quileute Indian. It’s the standard feather headdress and leather moccasins and loin cloth.

And in the tenth place of most asked for Halloween costume this year is the angel. Mostly it’s a costume for kids but sometimes adults like to be angels too, especially if they’re little devils.

There you have it, the top ten costumes for kids and adults. Of course, you can get them almost anywhere such as Kids-R-Us, Wal-Mart, Walgreen’s, and Halloween-Costume-Mart and don’t forget to include the Internet in your search for the best kids and adult costumes. Be sure to get in early or at least get your reservation in on the costume of your choice for Halloween this year.

If you’re having a Halloween party, your guests shouldn’t have any problems coming up with Halloween costume ideas.  There are literally thousands of ideas they can come up with.  It’s just a matter of deciding what they want to be and how much effort they want to go to.  Here are a few ideas you can give your guest, even if you have a themed party.

Since you want your guest to participate in any games you have it’s best not to have a theme party with eighteen hundred dress.  Especially for women in those long bowed out hoop dresses.  It’s even hard to dance in them let alone bob for apples.  So pick your Halloween theme with care and your guest should be happy.

Your theme can be any of the thousands ideas from cartoon characters, movies, TV shows, and
Rock Stars to the good old fashion hunted house. Give them plenty of time to get their Halloween costume ideas together by sending out the invites early.  If necessary, put ideas on the bottom of the invitations just to give them some ideas on how to dress up.

If you’re a fan of Disney then your theme will be an easy one for your guests.  They can dress up like
Beetlejuice Toy Story ,  Prince of Persia, Tigger or Pooh, Chronicles of Narnia, and even Bolt and Tinker Bell.  They list goes on and on.  It’s one theme that will have your guest running out to costume shops looking for their favorite character.

You can also make a directive that says the Halloween costume must be homemade.  It’s one of the hardest costume ideas to do but it helps use the imagination and you’ll see some wonderful costumes.

Another theme party you can throw is the Hollywood glamour themed party.  Of course, you’ll get a number of Brangelina’s and Bennifer’s plus you’ll also see all the major stars at your party.  You can tell your friends and family how you partied with the stars last night.

One more party theme that will give your guests a ton of costume ideas is a theme from classic movies. You’ll get to bob apples with Samson and Delilah, watch fireworks with Anthony and Cleopatra, and sit and drink tea with Scarleet and Rhett.  This is one of the best themes for Halloween costume ideas for your guests.

Womens Gone With The Wind Scarlet O'Hara Picnic Costume Gone With The Wind Scarlet O’Hara Picnic Costume

This is a replica of the beautiful gown worn by Scarlet O’Hara in the picnic scene in Gone With The Wind. Scarlet looked so lovely, standing out among all the other young ladies. Her goal at the barbeque at the Twelve Oaks Plantation was to see the love of her life, Ashley Wilkes. While the other girl’s are napping, Scarlet sneaks away to profess her love to Ashley. Her heart is broken when Ashley tells her of his intent to marry Melanie. Just after that she meets Rhett Butler and thus the epic story begins. She may have been upset but she still looked lovely in this Women’s Gone With The Wind Scarlet O’Hara Picnic Costume featuring a white gown with a pale green floral pattern. The dress has a ruffled neckline and a wide green satin sash. Its a stunning dress that exudes old world southern femininity.

All in all, the best theme is one that will enchant your guest and give them tons of ideas for their Halloween costume.  They will talk about your party far into the future and will remember what fun they have coming up with the Halloween costume ideas.

When you look back through your photo albums, pictures of your children in their Halloween Costume (coupon code: GETFIVE) will likely bring on laughter and fond memories. But first you’ll have to get your child to keep their costume on long enough to snap a photo.

Celebrating your children’s first few Halloweens can be a blast for both them and you, but finding a costume that is comfortable enough to wear for an hour or two can be a challenge. And when dressing a small child for Halloween, it’s also important to keep them safe and warm. Whether you are making your own costumes, or browsing boys and girls Halloween costumes at the store or through an online retailer like Costume Craze, here are a few things to keep in mind:
Storewide Sale! EVERYTHING Up to 90% OFF!

* Use face paint instead of a mask. Younger children often won’t do well with wearing something extra on their faces. It will also ensure that their vision won’t be blocked so they can see where they are going.

* Make sure your child can move freely in the costume. If not, you’re likely to see the costume on the floor before you make it out the door. Again, it’s also a safety issue, as you don’t want a costume that will cause your child to fall down. If the costume has a tail or other lose accessories, make sure they don’t get in the way of your child’s footsteps.

* On that same note, make sure your child can easily go to the bathroom if he or she needs to do so.

* If you’re going trick-or-treating, make sure your child’s costume is warm enough. Add layers underneath if it is not. Plan ahead for all types of conditions when selecting a costume.

* It may also be a good idea to make reflective materials a part of your child’s costume so cars and other trick-or-treaters can see them. You can either add them or look for costumes that already have them. Another option is to have your child carry a flashlight or glow stick or attach lights to their costumes.

* Avoid any flammable material. If you’re buying a costume, check the label to find out what it’s made of, and avoid using anything that could catch on fire if you are making a costume or adding on to one.

With Halloween just over a month away, the season is already bringing mayhem and mischief to Party City as the store stocks its shelves with edgy new costumes in response to shifting consumer tastes.

“This year, Avante Garde hits mainstream, and as a result, 2010 costumes are expected to be completely over the top,” says Melissa Sprich, top costume merchandiser for Party City. “The fashion world right now is about fusing high-fashion looks with pieces that are completely individualized, and Party City’s collection of Halloween costumes allows customers to do just that.”

Melissa adds, “More than ever, the latest runway shows and fashion-forward individuals influence costume trends, and as always, the year’s hit blockbusters and outlandish pop figures strongly influence costume trends as people love taking on a completely different persona for Halloween.”

Specifically, Party City has witnessed a spike in demand for costumes reflecting Lady Gaga’s outrageous and provocative style, and her unique fashion statements are sure to be seen at many 2010 Halloween events.

According to Party City, the top 2010 Halloween costume trends include:

Lady Gaga Costumes
: The hugely popular recording artist and activist is also a fashion trend-setter. Lady Gaga’s VMA performance costume and her black and silver sequin dress are just two of the Lady Gaga costumes creating a buzz on social sites like Twitter and Facebook.

Modern-day Vampire Costumes: Inspired by the Twilight saga and True Blood series, today’s vampire differs from its menacing Victorian ancestor. Still wan and fanged, the modern vampire has a mysterious, sensual, and sometimes sensitive appeal. With this in mind, Party City debuts its Moonlight Bite vampire costume, which sparkles with electric lights in its ruffled black skirt.

1980s comeback costumes: Eighties style is back with a vengeance, so expect this year’s Halloween ensembles to feature plenty of the big hair, leggings, bright neon colors, lace gloves, and acid-wash denim iconic of the
Michael Jackson
and Material Girl era.

Jersey Shore cast member costumes
: Expect to see costumes that amplify the distinctive looks and outlandish personalities of MTV’s popular reality show. Party City features all the accessories needed to pull off a signature Jersey Shore look, including Snooki’s leopard mini-dress dress, bumpit wig, and orange-tinted bronzer, Pauly D’s infamous perfectly gelled wig, and a “Situation” muscle-tee for Michael.

Roman
and Greek Goddess Costumes : Long, flowing, feminine Greek robes and gladiator-inspired sandals so popular in 2010 translate into beautifully fashionable Halloween costumes. Party City carries a variety of classic Egyptian, Roman, and Greek costumes that seem to float and create an air of celestial vision.

Movie-inspired costumes
: Hollywood is always a rich source of inspiration for Halloween costumes. Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, Avatar, and Alice and Wonderland costumes are sure to populate this year’s Halloween parties, but Star Wars Darth Vader remains the perennial favorite.
